Wednesday photos

Last night, I joined a short hike up to a ridge where we watched the sunset. It was beautiful.

This morning after breakfast, I grabbed the kayak and went fishing. I caught five about this size (small - objects in the picture may appear larger than they are). All were released. It was wonderful.

This afternoon, after being abandoned by all others, I went into Dubois alone. This is the main reason I went, as well as the likely reason no one went with me:

However, I also hit the National Bighorn Sheep Center, which was moderately interesting. I had no idea the Shoshone made bows out of bighorn sheep horns.

Vicki was on an entirely different schedule. She can decide if the details are blog-worthy.

I was on a different schedule. I woke up feeling much better than I did yesterday. I guess that I just had to sit with that grief and process it. It was incredibly helpful to be with people who allowed me to be vulnerable. My enneagram 8 ego, has allowed me to walk in the world thinking that I had to be strong, but to be weepy and sad and still accepted brings friendships to a whole different level.

But today, feeling less weepy and sad, I went on a 75-minute horseback ride. It was fantastic. The weather was much better - cooler and overcast. My horse, Daisy, allowed me to ride her, and she took great care of me. I did not have to worry about whether she would make it up or down a hill or whether she would reject me for not being in charge (stupid, I know, but real), and it was amazing. Here are some photos from horseback:

We saw some amazing land. It's very, very dry here, due to drought, but the sage is about to bloom and smells awesome. We passed a boulder pile, with an incredible amount of boulders left by glaciers, and saw the bones of horses that died and were left on the land to feed the coyotes, bears, birds, and other carnivores here. It seems like a great alternative to burial - at least for horses. I'm not sure where we could get away with that for humans.

The Otters cleaned up after lunch, and Rebecca went swimming in the lake. Then she and I tried to kayak and paddle board, respectively, but the wind was too much. Tomorrow, we will hike close to 5 miles up to the glacier after breakfast and I'll hopefully be able to do a 4-to-5 hour horse ride on Friday. :)
