The Cody Connection
I was so upset by the SCOTUS ruling last nite that I completely forgot to mention that we stopped by the Buffalo Bill Cultural Center in Oakley, KS. There was not much to see, but we stopped because my paternal grandmother's maiden name was Cody, and we used the family name for our younger son Cody, and there is absolutely no genealogical connection between Buffalo Bill and me, unless it's some VERY distant cousin, which is unlikely, but I wanted to stop anyway. And so we did.
This is as good as it gets, folks. It was 100 degrees and I was not tromping up that hill. Sorry. |
Today was the BIG DAY when we visited the World's Largest Collection of the World's Smallest Versions of the World's Largest Things. That's right; in downtown Lucas, Kansas, a local artist has created and displayed her renditions of the smallest versions etc. She visited each of the world's largest things before created her smallest versions. Dan said that he got some great ideas of where to go see more. I thought to myself that I hope that his second wife is a better travel companion. She might even agree to go in an RV.
Before and after that awesome stop, we visited more WLTs, which are pictured below.
You get the idea, right? So now on to just the big versions:
For your edification (eggification? - Dan) |
(I'd make a comment about my legs buckling, but Vicki might belt me. - Dan)
World's Largest Russian Egg |
(Not as eggcellent as the Czech egg. - Dan)
This is the world's largest cap gun. Not kidding. |
And that, folks, is it for the big things, except that we go in search of a shuttlecock tomorrow.
In order to get keep our brains from turning into complete shit from searching out this stuff, we went to the Eisenhower Presidential Museum. I was not a big fan of Ike's, but he had some good quotes. Here is one that is still timely:
We also drove by the Brown v Board National Historical Site, but it was closed. I'm sure that the Browns would have been very disheartened at the failure of the integration of public schools.
We finished up the day in Kansas City at Arthur Bryant's BBQ, in honor of Ted Lasso. Sorry, Ted, but Memphis BBQ is just better.
